Your money

Every sale moves left to right: the buyer gets it, confirms it, then you take the money out.

Do I owe tax?

Do you buy things to sell on for a profit?
Do you also earn from a job or pension?

Your tax code is on your payslip, your P60, or in the HMRC app. Most people have 1257L, so we start with that.

Your sales

Change a sale's status with its button. Syncing from Vinted does this for you.

Questions

Do I have to pay tax on Vinted sales?

Selling your own unwanted things is usually tax-free, unless one item sells for more than £6,000. If you buy or make things to sell for a profit, that is trading, and income over £1,000 a year must be reported to HMRC.

What is the £1,000 trading allowance?

Your first £1,000 of trading income in a UK tax year (6 April to 5 April), from all side hustles together and before costs, is tax-free and does not need reporting. Over that, you register for Self Assessment by 5 October after the tax year ends.

Does Vinted report my sales to HMRC?

Yes, once you make 30 or more sales, or about £1,700 (€2,000), in a calendar year. Being reported does not mean you owe tax. HMRC checks it against what you tell them.

When does Vinted money reach my bank?

After a sale the money is pending. Once the buyer confirms the item, or two days after delivery with no problem raised, it moves to your Vinted balance. You can then withdraw it to your bank.

Is Sidetally free?

Yes. Sidetally is free, with no password needed. Your sales stay in your browser unless you sign up to keep them in your account.

Is Sidetally part of Vinted?

No. Sidetally is independent and not affiliated with Vinted.

I am not on Vinted yet. How do I start?

Download the Vinted app and sign up. If you join with our invite link, you get up to £10 in Vinted vouchers once you list 3 items and make your first sale. We get vouchers too, which helps keep Sidetally free.

Support Sidetally
